I was just wondering how many people tried online dating? Recently I tried it to, but it feels like a lot of people, especially guys, only want one thing... So how do you know someone in sincere and is really interested in you, and not just for one night?
I've never really been a fan of meeting people online, and I think I still kind of feel that way. But when I arrived in San Francisco, I didn't know anyone. Then a met another au pair, who is actually a really good friend now, and she recommend to get a profile on a dating site/app. Not necessarily to get a relationship or anything like that out of it, but just to meet some new people in the area.
It sounded like a good idea, so I created a profile and got quite a lot of response, but I was still a bit weary to actually meet up with someone. I would talk to guys for a while and then we never met, so one day I decide I just had to go and do it, go on a date. For a while I had been talking to this guy and he seemed really nice, so we agreed on a pick-nick. He was a really nice guy and we just talked, but that was it, so I didn't get that much out of it. At least I actually went on a date, but I don't know if I would do it again.
The thing is you never know who you are talking too online until you actually meet the person. Some people seem really nice when you start talking to them, but after a few weeks you find out that they actually only want one thing... and that definitely is a deal breaker for me. I still have my profile out there, but I'm not really looking for anything, every now and then I get a message and if it seems like a nice person I might send something back, but I guess for now, no more online dates for me.
