Postcrossing

Source

A while ago I came across a website that is perfect for all the people that love to receive mail. And them I'm not talking about junk mail, but about the real thing, postcards, letters, that kind of stuff. It is really easy and you will send and receive mail from all over the world. You can send as many cards as you want, and waiting for the mailman has never been so much fun!

I love getting mail, especially when I'm overseas, but unfortunately most people prefer sending emails, because its easier, faster and cheaper. So even though I send postcards to friends and family, there are only a few of them that actually send a card back. Postcrossing is the perfect solution!

I was just reading some articles online when I came across this website to send postcards: www.postcrossing.com Its really fun and easy!

How does it work?

1. Request an address from the website
2. Mail the postcard to the address
3. Wait to receive a postcard
4. Register the received postcard in the system

The first step is to request to send a postcard. The website will display (and send you an e-mail) with the address of another member and a postcard ID (e.g.: US-786). You then mail a postcard to that member.

The member receives the postcard and registers it using the postcard ID that is on the postcard. At this point, you are eligible to receive a postcard from another user. You are now in line for the next person that requests to send a postcard. Where the postcard comes from is a surprise!

You can have up to 5 postcards traveling at any single time. Every time one of the postcards you send is registered, you can request another address. The number of postcards allowed to travel at any single time goes up the more postcards you send!

Sounds pretty easy right? I started in July last year, but unfortunately I haven't been able to send to many cards yet. At the moment my account is still inactive, that will change today though! When I decided on moving to San Francisco, I deactivated my account, because there would be no point to receive mail when I was gone, but now I'm all settled here I can start again. So far I have send 6 postcards to: Belarus, China, Finland, Germany, Poland and Taiwan. I received 10 postcards from: Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain and Ukraine.

I'm actually really excited about updating my profile and continue this wonderful project, from now on I will try to send one postcard every week.

This are all the postcards I received so far:
