To show a little bit more off my Au pair life, I thought it might be fun to show you my room here in San Francisco. As an Au pair you live with your hostfamily, and my room is pretty small, so don't expect to much. But I get to live in San Franisco without paying rent, so now reason to complain here ;) I know there are a lot of people that expect Au pairs to live with rich families in a mansion, but that's definitely not the case for me...
This picture is taken from my door. The room is really small, and basically has a bed, nightstand, bookshelf and a dresser. The light is really bad, because there is only one window, but it doens't let any light in.
Here a close up of the bed. My hostparents bought me some new sheets, I was allowed to pick something I wanted for a certain amound, to give the room a bit of a personal touch. So I choose the purple sheets and later I bought some more purple accessoires myself. The stuffed animals on my bed I bring with me everywhere when I travel. The grey elephant I got from my sister from 'Sinterklaas' a few years ago en the other one I got from my grandmother when I was born. It used to be all white, but it kind of fell apart, so tried fixing it with different patches of fabric.
This part is still kind of empty, but the whiteboard still needs hanging up above the bookshelfs, so hopefully it will look a bit better after that. The pink notes on the mirror are quotes, I thought it would be a great idea to write down quotes I like and put them all around it.
On top of the bookshelfs I keep the make up I use regurlarly, because its close to my mirrow. I also have a picture on there of my mom, sisters and me.
So this is my dresser, and by now its pretty much almost full. When I first arrived here I had two empty drawers and now its hard to fit everything in. I bought that tv for $15 on craigslist, because I wanted a tv in my room, but I don't use it that often. I just bought a dvd player, so maybe I will actually start using it now. I didn't have any hanging space in my room, that's why I put those stuff on the door. I have some hanging space in a closet in the hallway, but I found it easier to have the stuff I use often near by.
This are my shoes, and most of them I actually brought with me from Holland. The only ones I bought here are the dark blue flats next to the trashcan, and 2 pairs of boots, because I didn't really have proper winter shoes when I came here.
This was my room, its not that special, but I hope you liked to see it. I know it looks a bit boring and although I really want to decorate it a little bit more, there isn't really a point. I'm only going to be here for another year and I won't be able to bring all the stuff I buy back home with me, so it would be a waste of money. So I just leave it as it is right now.
What do you think of my room?
