Au pair life update

Source

I figured it was about time to give you a little update about what I'm going to do next. My first year here is ending in October, so I had to decide what to do next.  In June I got my extension letter from the agency, and I had to let them know before 22 July if and how long I wanted to extend.

Since I have been here I had to plan to extend, the question was just how long? The plan was going to university in Australia after this experience, and the university will start in February or July. I wanted to extend but if I would do 6 months I wouldn't have a lot of time to be home and 9 months would be to late to start in July, but to early to come back to start in February. The best solution seemed to extend for a year, but 5 days before I had to send in the forms I started to have doubts about going to Australia and was thinking about the UK instead. Then I also started to doubt about the degree I wanted to do and realized I couldn't take this decision in just 5 days. That's why I emailed the agency and explained them the situation, they advised me to extend for 12 months and just keep them updated, so I signed for another 12 months!

Now I just have to figure out what I exactly want to do after this second year. The original plan was to either finish my Bachelor of Social Work here in the US, or go back to Australia and finish it there. I decided I won't finish it here in the US, because there are a lot of crazy rules here before you can even get the visa. Then I was thinking to maybe go to the UK instead, because it's closer  to home.

When I was younger I always wanted to be a midwife, but I didn't take the right subjects in high school so I changed my plans. Now I'm looking into it again, and am considering doing this degree instead. It isn't possible for me to do that in the UK., because they have a rule that you have to live in the EU for 3 years straight before you can apply. I live in Australia for a year in 2011, so I won't meet that requirement. That's why I started looking into Australia again and am now seeing if there is a possibility for me to do the degree there. I have contacted at least 20 universities, but a lot of them don't offer the degree for international students, but I still have time till the end of this year before I have to start applying, so I will keep you updated!
