Lake Tahoe

As I mentioned in on of my previous posts I planned a few trips, one of then being Lake Tahoe. This is where I spend a weekend and we had a great time!

I went with three friends who are all au pairs as well, none of us had been to Lake Tahoe before and it was on our to-do list, so we were very excited to finally be able to cross it off. We all had to work on Friday but rented a car and went straight after work. The girl that picked up the car had never driven in the US before, and didn't even know how to start the car, so that was very interesting.... We made it in one piece to the highway and then it went a lot better. It was about a 3,5 hours drive, so it wasn't too far. When we got to Tahoe we had to take a left somewhere and we where waiting for the light, but it wouldn't go green. Then there where the cops behind is and they came to our window... Turned out we weren't in the turning lane, but in the lane to go straight, whoops! At least the cop was nice and told us to take the next turn, and we finally got to the hotel. We just had a room with to queens sized beds and a little bathroom, but it was enough for us. We arrived around midnight, so after that we just went to bed.

We woke up at 7 on Saturday from two people fighting. This guy was yelling at a girl and it was pretty scary. He was screaming that he was going to drag get up the stairs and we were kind of scared he was going to hit her. Luckily he didn't and they left, not a very nice way to wake up. We had some breakfast, which was just cereal and milk and then we went to Starbucks. We still needed to figure out what we wanted to do the rest of the day, do we went to a store where they organized tours. The guy that worked there showed us a route we could do by car around the lake and he showed us te spots where we should stop to take pictures. We basically drove around all day and took some very nice pictures. On one of the hikes we kind of got lost, but luckily we found our way back. We had lunch at a really nice cafe, and then we went to watch the sunset, which as amazing. Then it was around 5ish and we went back to the hotel.

We were really tired so around 6 we where in bed watching the Kardashians haha. Around 8 we decided we should go an do something, so we decided to try and get into a casino. One if the girls was under 21, so we were not sure if we could get in. Luckily for us they didn't check ID at the entrance, so we easily got in. When we went to order drinks I showed them my Dutch ID, because u didn't have my passport with me. They told me they needed to see my passport, so no drink for me :(. Later I went back to get an orange juice, and they didn't want to give it to me because didn't have my passport, like WTF?! It isn't even alcohol and they didn't want to give it to me because I didn't have my passport. Then on of my friends went up there to get an orange juice and gave it to me. It was quite boring at the casino, so we decided to go. We got some souvenirs and we were hungry so we decided to go get pizza. Then we walked back to our room trend the Kardashians back on and at our pizza in front of the tv. Some of us fell a sleep and I turned of the tv around 12. Tomorrow would be our last day...

Sunday morning we got up around 8, and we were in the car at 9. We had one last thing to see that we missed the dat before. We drove there but couldn't find it, we were supposed to get somewhere where we could see the whole lake, but we were on the wrong side of the mountain. Eventually we asked someone the way and drove back. We got to this trail so we went there but it didn't really lead anywhere, so we went back. It was kind of tricky to get the car out of there, because that thing was a beast, but we made it. We decided to just go to a view point and take some pictures there.

One of the girls had her birthday, so we got her a cake and a card without her knowing it. When we got to te viewpoint which was beautiful we gave her the cake and the card. We had a little party with Lake Tahoe on the background. We took some amazing pictures and then decided to drive back home. We were really tired and all of us except for the driver fell a sleep. After a few hours we all were hungry and needed a bathroom, so we stopped at In 'n Out Burger, because two of the girls had never been there. It was really good, but also not very good for my clean eating resolution haha!

Then we drove back to San Francisco and we had to drop of the car at the rental company. That was quite a chalk end because driving in San Francisco isn't easy and we also had a huge car. We drove the wrong way like three times and there are so many one way streets that it took us quite some time to finally get to the right place. Eventual we made, the car was in going shape and we all took public transport to go home. It was a great weekend and I have something else to cross of my to do list in the United States.

If you could go anywhere in the United States where would it be?
