As I'm writing this I'm waiting for my connecting flight to Brisbane, where I will start school and become an Au pair once again. I feel like this is where I should be, spreading my wings and becoming more of my own person. I'm super excited to get to Australia and start my new life, but before I flew to Brisbane I visited my previous host family in San Francisco.
I arrived on a Friday evening a little bit earlier than expected, so that was nice. The only thing was that for this 11 hour flight I only got one meal and a cookie, so by the time I arrived in San Francisco I was starving. It was so funny when the kids saw me, they were just kind of staring at me for a minute, but then it sank in it was me and they got all excited. They were talking so much better than last time I saw them, and they wanted to show me all their new things, their potty, their big boy beds and even their big boy underwear haha. The new Au pair, Julia was really nice too, but I already expected that because we were already messaging each other since I talked to her on Skype before she matched with the family. Nancy ordered pizza, and we didn't do that much for the rest of the evening. The kids didn't want to go to bed because they were too excited haha. Julia shared her room with me, which saved me from early mornings ;) Thanks Julia!
We were planning on going to the wine country the next day, but it turned out the Golden Gate Bridge was closed that weekend and it was too late to take the detour. So we went to a playground instead, when the kids got too tired, Yug took them home and Nancy, Julia and I went shopping. I only bought a dress and a top, because I have enough luggage as it is. Afterwards I went out for dinner with Julia and we watched a movie. But I was a little bit jet lagged so I missed half of it because I kept falling a sleep.
In the morning Yug made a chocolate bread, and we went to the wine country. We took the bread in the car and ate in on the way. We didn't have enough space in the care for everyone, so Julia offered to go in the trunk haha. This time we actually made it to the wine country, but it was really foggy and cold when we got there. Luckily the fog went away after a few minutes and the sun came out. I'm not that much of a drinker, but I tried some of the wine anyway and it was pretty good. The kids were running around and on the way back home we went to In 'n Out Burger :D There was a lot of traffic so we got home quite late, then Yug took Nancy out for dinner and Julia and I watched the kids.
It was Nancy's birthday on Monday but our present for her didn't came into the mail yet, so we decided to make her a cake when the kids were sleeping. In the morning we went to the park were we also met Gabi, so I was excited to see her. After the kids had their nap Aidan spotted the cake and wanted it haha, so we kept telling him he had to be a good boy if he wanted cake, because it was still 1,5 hour till Nancy got home haha. In the evening Julia and I went to look for a place to get out nails done, but in the end we were too late so we had dinner somewhere instead.
Tuesday morning we went to the academy of sciences to see the 'fishes', the kids loved it. But then they decided they wanted to go and see the butterflies. One little detail, Julia is scared of butterflies haha, luckily for her the butterfly sanctuary was closed so we couldn't go. After Yug got home we had a second try to get our nails done and this time we found a place, but they only had time for me because Julia already had gel nails and it would take too long to take it off. One of Julia's friends joined us as well and afterwards we had dinner together. I also bought some things to eat for my trip to Australia because I was going to be stuck at an airport in Taiwan for almost 18 hours and I didn't want to have to buy all my food there. We went to bed pretty early, but then we ended up talking till really late haha.
On my last day in San Francisco we had a playdate a Gabi's house, which was nice. I got here some wooden shoe slippers and she loved them haha. We stayed for quite a while and after we got home we gave the kids lunch and put them to bed. The only problem was that they didn't want to go to sleep. At some point I went to have a shower and they were still not sleeping. I also had to repack some of my stuff so I did that. Luckily the kids eventually fell a sleep but then Julia had to wake them up at 5, because they were still sleeping, and then they were still tired... Then Nancy came home and the plumber came because there was no water in the kitchen. But because of the plumber being in the way she couldn't really start dinner. So in the meantime we took some pictures, eventually Nancy could start cooking and Yug came home, so we took some pictures with everybody and then I had to go.
I had a great time in San Francisco and it felt like I never left, I fitted right back in :) They might be coming to Australia later this year, so that would be exciting as well! I will post a video about my trip here on my blog and on my Youtube channel in the next few days.
